Hourly Comic Day 2015

Mandy\'s avatar

February 1st was Hourly Comics Day! A fun tradition where you draw a small comic about what you’re doing every hour you’re awake – I like it as an exercise in sketching quickly (and getting over perfectionism…), as well as trying to find humor in my day / twist normal occurrences into something silly, or at least fun to draw. I remembered to finish it this year and it wasn’t a terribly eventful day, but I feel like there are a couple of good laughs in there. 🙂

Ah, and because this comic contains a few quips in (probably very bad) French, here is a helpful link!

  1. Your fench sentences were really good ! =) And for the story Wakfu the cartoon is based on Wakfu the game wich is kind of sequel to an Other game named Dofus.

For the non french speaking ppl :

    -> Why don’t I have a nose ?
-> Maybe with French/green beans ? [not sure of the translation French beans seem to be UK english and I don’t know how to say it in USA english]
    -> What’s happening ? I don’t speak French !!

First time commenting here maybe I’ll keep doing that I realy love your comic.

    1. Thank you!

Frankly I’ve heard English speakers call them all three of those – green beans, French beans, or haricots verts. I usually just say green beans.

      1. For a while, Costco was selling large bags of frozen green beans, imported from France at a lower cost than the domestic beans. They might be a different variety, since they were a lot thinner. Or maybe they’re metric… Either way, they tasted like green beans.

        1. I always look forward to the stir-fried green beans on a Chinese buffet. 🙂

  2. Loved the part of Fox as Scruffy from Futurama. 🙂

Quick question for you Mandy, at the 2300 section, did Fox scare you by when your guard was down?

    1. Basically yeah. It was quiet and I didn’t know he was there when he spoke up. I startle too easy.

  3. Taco Pizza sounds alright but the Shells would get soggy too quickly.

Apparently Tortilla Lasagne is supposed to be good, I’ve been meaning to try it but never get ’round to it.

  4. I LOVE the Scruffy joke!
Could you upload a video of your character entering a fight? I’d love to see that. I looked on YouTube but found nothing =(

      1. Thanks! That helped me a LOT! XD
Now I am listening to “Everybody Do The Flop” while watching it over and over XD

  5. OMG! Thank you. You have no idea how much of a relief this is. I thought I was the only one who couldn’t fall asleep before midnight and felt so guilty for waking up after 1000. Thank you!

  6. This is literally the first time my knowledge of French has ever come in handy. Nice!

  7. I love French! This is a great comic day, awesome job! I haven’t had much practice with my French, I’m a bit rusty.

On a random coincidence, I too made spaghetti today, it was amazing

  8. Here we see the rare Mandy Seley and Fox in their natural habitat. Notice the way they seem to avoid contact with others 🙂

  9. You post a comic about online videogames and don’t include the information necessary for others to hunt you down? For shame.

I have to say, though, I think yours was the first “Hourly Comic Day” comic that actually made me laugh.

    1. Because we don’t actually tend to stick with MMOs, just pick them up and play for a few weeks then drop it. No point in advertising screen names. 😛

      1. *narrows eyes* Somehow, sometime…
        I will hunt you down…
And then I will probably lose pathetically because you’re the higher level and you can team up on me.

(But yes, I’m usually doing the same. That’s why I was so excited to hear you playing a game that I actually played myself until a few weeks ago.)

        1. We also like our privacy.
We don’t want people ‘hunting’ us.

I got enough of that shit from women in college for a lifetime.

  10. I was soo happy when i saw you like Wakfu. My friend introduced me to Dofus a couple of years back and with several breaks i still play Dofus and Wakfu today. I just wanted to know does the following situation also happen to you: i tend to be obssesed with it for a couple of weeks then stop for a couple of months, rinse and repeat. Completely useless fact there is a rule 34 video of it.

    1. P.s. if anyone is interested i actually found the English version of the cartoon.

      1. I got 20 seconds in, cringed and instinctively closed it.
For some reason once I’ve seen the original, I can’t watch a dub. It’s like nails on a chalkboard.
        http://youtu.be/Jct9cXZdHwA

Meanwhile (IMO) the reverse isn’t always the case. A lot of dubs don’t get the voice actor quality the originals do, so a dub you couldn’t stand might be a sub you’d watch and enjoy.
Cowboy Bebop was a good dub. They’re pretty rare.

        1. That seems to be a common trend among people who watch an anime. They just can’t stand the dub. Admittedly, a lot of dubs are pretty bad (Godzilla vs. Mechagodzilla II anyone?) so it makes sense. I would watch Attack on Titan (only anime I’ve watched) again subbed not the dub, but I don’t feel like its worth it.

          1. My theory is that it’s just because you can’t hear mistakes as easily in a language you don’t speak. The sub “sounds better” because if you’re not fluent in the language, you’re not going to notice most awkward wordings, inflections, or other little “slip ups” that the voice actors may make.

          2. Whoa, that made sense :O After hearing that, I agree. I know that I hear the slip-ups but dont notice them, but I do know there is something off

          3. Aye.
Mandy understands French better than I, and I Japanese better than her.

We say “Uh…that’s not what he really said.” a lot while watching Netflix.

  11. Hmmm… wait, if I play games with calculators, am I a nerd? What if I enjoy playing hard characters because I know the small little stuff that no one cares about?

  12. this is literally jam packed with adorable faces and just straight up adorableness.
    i particularly like 1600, 1800, and 2300

  13. You’ve got such a great, mature, readership! We’re shown Fox eating a bowl of left-over beans, and there’s not one single “Firefox” joke!
    Uhm… Oops.

    Until now?

  14. “Dook dook dook” – been partying with Drinky Crow and Uncle Gabby?

  15. Have you ever thought about streaming your games on twitch?

  16. 1100: Didn’t you have this problem last year: trying to get Fox up to be funny/inspiring?
    1400: Taco pizza: YES!
1800: I may need to play this game, just to see that
2100: I tend to overeat my pasta as well. Love Fox sweeping up the exploded bits of Seley there.

Seems like you had a pretty full day. I love your comic, it always makes me laugh!

  17. This whole thing is fun! I like when you do this kinda thing, Mandy.
    I think I like 11:00 best! 🙂
18:00 and the first half of 19:00 are good.
23:00 reminds me of my first office job. I was actually asked to deliberately walk “loudly” whenever I needed to pass this one lady’s office. My “quiet” walk was -not- intentional. 🙂

    1. The world is full of people who fail to see or hear what’s going on around them, and then jump in panic when they finally notice. There’s nothing you can do for them, but maybe tie bells to your shoes. Actually, I’m not sure that would work for long, either…
