Pouches

You all know I’m correct. I have a small collection of belt pouches I’ll use on occasion. The centerpiece of my collection is a black duty belt pouch signed by Rob Liefeld – Marvel comics artist, co-creator of Deadpool, notorious for drawing too many pouches and not enough feet, and honestly a pleasant guy and a very good sport (he told me it wasn’t even the first pouch he’d signed that day!)

It’s not a coincidence we both have duty-belts, FLC and MOLLE gear. It’s mostly for cosplay, but once you learn you can wear one belt to keep up your pants and another for absolutely anything you want…why wouldn’t you?

  1. Its like a handbag that you dont need to hold!

The only downside is that you need to wear a belt.

    1. Thank you for noticing! I imagine they would be a lot like “storage” pendants or “poison rings” where they’re just big enough to store one dose of ibuprofen or something? I don’t actually wear earrings very often but now I have IDEAS…

  2. I met Liefeld at a DragonCon in the early 90s, and was not impressed.

Speaking of early 90s conventions, did either of you ever play Dark ConFrontation?

  3. Great gadfrey… it is *intensely* pleasing to see this comic updating so much more often. I had feared after that 6-month hiatus that’t was gone for good and all. 8{)}

  4. Pouches are good, great even. *In /Moderation/.*

That said, I would have loved to have had a pack system like the MOLLE of today. It would have been great to have three or four addition pouches to hold critical gear in besides the rifle.mags 1st Aid kit, and NBC kit. A snacks pouch, A real first aid pouch, A recon pouch(binocular, paper, map, pencils and markers etc) and a battery pouch. If you don’t know, you’ve never been…)

Stumbled across this by way of the Whiteboard and Doc Nichols, and will be introducing you guys to Band’s Bar on a frequent basis. Should we ever meet in real life, we’ll try shooting.

    1. It was so kind of The Whiteboard to give us a cameo – thank you for following the link to find us!

I’m sure that pouches, like everything, can become excessive – but given the size of women’s pants pockets, I would LOVE the opportunity to have TOO MANY for once! (Or just make it socially acceptable for me to wear a bandolier of 60+ ridiculous pouches like 1990s Cable)

  5. That (first panel) isn’t really true though, is it? If all women wanted pockets then women’s clothes would have them because the large corporations that make women’s clothing like money.

    1. The magic hand of the market is not infallible, perverse incentives are a thing. It doesn’t optimize for your personal convenience, or even safety and sanity. It optimizes for maximum profit at least cost and must be cudgeled very hard to do anything else.

  6. I should point out that pockets were originally Women’s clothing, a separate item worn between the outer dress/skirt and the under clothes. Real Men ™ wore pouches on their belt (and swords, daggers, perfume balls etc.)

  7. Pouches are cool, work aprons are nice, and fishing vests and parkas are top tier!

  8. And they leave hands free and can’t be snatched like purses. Give her a holster with a Glock 19 in it.

  9. Hee hee hee. Seeley doing superhero cosplay! With all the gaming you two are into I’m not surprised at this strip.

(Mind you, I recollect a sketch of Seeley as a furry harem girl. Now that’s the kind of cosplay I think we can all approve of. :- ) )

  10. I don’t know what Fox is talking about; those definitely look like tool pouches you would attach to belts rather than “fanny packs”, to me.

  11. I’ve been following this comic for a while now and it is genuinely SO GOOD!!

Also this one reminds me of a Don McMillan sketch on cargo pants (if you’re not familiar, look it up; based on this, I think you’d get a kick out of it)
